Memory Map is planned as a series of works that explore my memories of the structures that I grew up in, all of which are now demolished. This fall I will open a site specific installation at the UICA in downtown Grand Rapids that will be the first of this series.
As part of building this piece I am looking for donations of fabric and volunteers. Fabric can be anything from old t-shirts to excess yardage to worn linens. The process involves cutting (or ripping) the fabric into 4 inch wide strips then braiding the strips into long braids. The same process used to make rag rugs.
If you would like to help you can jump in at any step. Donate fabric, process into strips, or make strips into braids.
I am still working out logistics of collecting the materials, but want to plant some seeds early in the process. I will be working on the project from early Spring to early Fall and would be grateful for your help.
